Solution

The correct option is C

a - (3), b - (1), c - (2), d - (4)

Centrifugation is a technique which is used to separate the components of mixtures, based on the difference in the mass of the particles. The removal of water from clothes in washing machine is done by centrifugation.

To separate two miscible liquids with the large difference in boiling points i.e. more than 25 C then distillation process is used. Separation of acetone (boiling point = 56 C) and water (boiling point = 100 C) is done by distillation.

If the difference between the boiling points of miscible liquid is less than 25 C then fractional distillation is used. Separation of ethanol (boiling point = 78 C) and methanol (boiling point = 65 C) is done by fractional distillation.

To separate immiscible liquids such as kerosene and water, oil and water etc. separating funnel method is used to separate the components of mixture.
