Spinal cord:
The spinal cord is a long, thin, tubular structure made of nervous tissue that extends from the brainstem's medulla oblongata to the lumbar region of the vertebral column.
It is a part of the central nervous system.
The spinal cord's primary function is to transmit nerve signals from the motor cortex to the body and from sensory neurons' afferent fibers to the sensory cortex.
It is also a center for coordinating many reflexes and contains reflex arcs that can control reflexes independently.
Effect of spinal cord injury:
In case of a spinal cord injury, the signals coming from the receptors as well as the signals sent to the effectors will be disrupted.
As both of these signals meet in a bundle in the spinal cord, so, if there is any spinal cord injury then both of these signals will be disrupted.
Signals from the nerves as well as signals to the receptors are disrupted in the event of a spinal cord injury.
