Solution

The correct option is D

Each one of (a) , (b) and (c).

1. Definition of oxidation

During a chemical reaction, if an atom either gains oxygen atoms or loses hydrogen atoms, or loses electrons then there occurs an increase in its oxidation number, and the particular atom is said to be oxidized and the chemical reaction is called an oxidation reaction.

2. Example of oxidation

When charcoal is burnt, the complete combustion of it forms Carbon dioxide gas (CO2).

The formation of Carbon dioxide (CO2) gas is an example of an oxidation reaction.

C(S)+O2(g)CO2(g)

In another example, Ammonia loses hydrogen and thus nitrogen undergoes oxidation.

2NH3gN2g+3H2g

Thus, option (d) is the correct choice among the given options.
