  • Fractional distillation is a technique used to separate different gases in the air.
  • To separate oxygen we can employ this method by warming liquid air (air that liquified under pressure) and allowing it to rise in the fractionating column.
  • The gases present is separated according to the boiling point.
  • Oxygen having the boiling point -183oc will also be separated.
  • Nitrogen having boiling point -196oc and argon having boiling point -186oc can also be separated from the air.
