Mesh topology requires a multipoint connection.

Multipoint connection is used in BUS Topology. All the devices are connected to a single transmission medium, which acts as the Backbone of the connection. This links all the devices in the network. Here each node has its unique address.

Mesh topology is a type of networking where all nodes cooperate to distribute data amongst each other. This topology was originally developed 30+ years ago for military applications, but today, they are typically used for things like home automation, smart HVAC control, and smart buildings.

The main difference between point-to-point and multipoint connection is that in a point-to-point connection the link is only between two devices i.e. a sender and a receiver. On the other hand, in a multipoint connection ,the link is between a sender and multiple receivers.
