Question

Which type of compounds cannot exhibit geometrical isomerism?
a) Singly Bonded
b) Doubly Bonded
c) Triply Bonded
d) Cyclic Compounds

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Ans c) Triply Bond

In case of geometric isomerism the two groups attached to the C atom involved (in a double bond or ring) must be different from each other. The other two groups attached to the other C atom must also be different from each other. Otherwise the two isomers will be indistinguishable but in case of triple bond only one group will be attached to carbon forming tri[ple bond so geometric isomer will not be possible.
