The drugs used to treat microbial infections are called anti-microbial drugs. They kill or prevent the growth of a wide range of microorganisms.
Anti-microbial medicines can be grouped according to the microorganisms they primarily act against.
For example, antibiotics are used against bacteria, and antifungals are used against fungi.
Antibiotics, sulpha drugs (sulphonamide), antiseptics and disinfectants come under antimicrobial drugs, which helps in controlling microbial activities.
