A point where two bones make contact is known as a joint.

Ball and socket joints:

  1. The ball and socket joint or the spheroidal joint is a kind of joint in which the round surface of one bone moves within the depression of another bone.
  2. It has the greatest freedom of movement.

If joints were fixed:

  1. If the elbow had a fixed joint, there will be no movement in the elbow.
  2. It would have been impossible to rotate or raise the hands.

Neck and head connected by ball and socket joint:

If the neck and head were connected by ball and socket joints, it would have been possible to rotate the heads in all directions.
