Which type of soil has a large proportion of big particles and large air spaces?
Clayey soil
Sandy soil is the most coarse type of soil with big rock particles and large air spaces.
Sandy soil has the largest particles among the different soil types. It is dry and gritty to the touch. The particles have huge spaces between them and so it can’t hold on to water. The water drains rapidly to places where the roots cannot reach. Plants don’t have a chance of using the nutrients in sandy soil more efficiently as they are swiftly carried away by the runoff.
