Solution
Laterite soil provides valuable building material. This word is derived
from Latin which means brick.
Laterite soil is formed due to intense leaching by rainwater. Laterite soil is
a rock type soil rich in iron and aluminium, and is commonly considered to have
formed in hot and wet tropical areas.
All laterites are of
rusty-red coloration, because of high iron oxide content. They develop by
intensive and long-lasting leaching of the underlying parent rock.
