Solution
The correct option is C U Thant U Thant was a Burmese diplomat and the third secretary-general of the United Nations from 1961 to 1971. He was the first European to hold this position. The India- Pakistan War of 1965 and Conflict of 1971 between India and Pakistan broke out in Kashmir in early August of 1965 soon spread along the entire length of the International border from the Lahore area to the sea.
The council on 20th September demanded a ceasefire and authorized the secretary general to provide the necessary assistance to ensure supervision of the ceasefire and withdrawal of all armed personnel. For that purpose the then UN secretary general U Thant persuaded India and Pakistan to agree to a ceasefire.
