In 1905, Lord Curzon decided to partition Bengal to control the growing opposition to British rules. The Swadeshi movement developed in reaction to measure. Values associated with this movement:
i) British goods were boycotted.
ii) The use of Khadi was made patriotic duty.
iii) Women were urged to throw away their silks and glass bangles and wear simple shell bangles.
iv) Rough homespun was glorified in songs and poems.
v) People were urged to start their own industries for the manufacture of goods such as matchboxes and cigarettes.
