Which vector, electric or magnetic, is used to represent the polarisation of e.m. waves? How will you show that light waves are transverse in nature?

Electric vector is used to represent the polarisation of e.m. waves.
If the plane polarised light passes through the polarizer having 90o angle to the direction of polarization of light wave, we get zero intensity. this shows that light has transverse nature.
