Question

Which will form the upper layer when mustard oil and water are mixed?

Open in App
Solution

Immiscible liquid: Two liquids that do not completely dissolve into one another. For example water and oil.

Solution of mustard oil and water:

  • When water and mustard oil are mixed they do not completely mix or dissolve into each other.
  • Layer formation can be seen in the mixture in which denser liquid will settle at the bottom and lighter liquid will float above the surface of the mixture.
  • Mustard Oil being lighter will float above the surface of the mixture and water being denser will form the lower layer.

Hence, When mustard oil and water are mixed mustard oil will form the upper layer.
