Question

While diluting a concentrated acid, why is it added to water?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student
On adding water to concentrated acid a large amount of heat is released. This could cause the flask to break and spilling of acid might take place which is dangerous.
So instead of adding water to acid, acid is slowly added to water with constant stirring to keep the temperature low and avoid any accidents.
