Age of Tanu, 5 years ago = x years
Age of her father 5 years ago = 2x years
Present ages of Tanu and her father respectively are (x+5) years and (2x+5) years.
Given that, sum of their present ages = 40 years
Therefore (x+5)+(2x+5) = 40
3x + 10 = 40
3x = 40-10
3x = 30
x = 30/3
x = 10

Present age of Tanu

$= x + 5 = 10 + 5 = 15 y e a r s$

Present age of Tanu's father

$= 2 x + 5 = 2 \times 10 + 5 = 20 + 5 = 25 y e a r s$
