While laying girders to construct a bridge, one end of each girder is kept over rollers, while the other end is fixed on a pillar. Explain the reason.

Steel girder are used to construct a bridge. One girder is fixed in a concrete while the other end is not fixed in concrete. It is supported on rollers so that if there is any changes in the temperature during change of seasons, girders may contract or expand without affecting the concrete.
