The bacterium is a prokaryote while diatom is a eukaryotic cell. When both the microorganism are observed under a microscope, the scattered genetic material can be seen in the cytoplasm without nuclear membrane in a bacterium while a dense region of genetic material with nuclear membrane is visible in a diatom.
