Litmus is a natural indicator, we know that acids are sour and change the color of blue litmus to red, whereas, bases are bitter and change the color of the red litmus to blue. But blue litmus paper is not available in the laboratory so we proceed with the following steps:-

step-1 First take red litmus paper and deep in basic solution, it turns blue.

step-2 Dry this blue litmus.

step-3 This blue litmus is deep in HCl solution and observed that the color turns red. Because HCl is a strong acid.
