Question

While sorting shapes, Jamie accidently mixed up two groups. Before the mix-up, each group contained 3 shapes: two polygons and the solid they form together. If so, help Jamie sort them back into the two original groups.

Solution

Each solid among the given shapes is made of two other planar shapes.

A cylinder is made of a rectangle wound around 2 circles.

So, the cylinder (2) can be grouped together with the rectangle (3) and the circle (5).

Similarly, a square pyramid is made of 4 conjoined triangles with a square at their base.

So, the square pyramid (6) can be grouped together with the square (4) and the triangle (1).

Hence, the two groups will be: (1, 4, 6) and (2, 3, 5)
