Let the distance between his house and work be x mi.

Distance he covers by walking =35x
Distance he covers by bike = 14x
Distance traveled by car = 2.25 mi

Total distance = Distance covered by walk + Distance covered by bike + Distance covered by car

x = 35x + 14x + 2.25

x - 0.6x - 0.25x = 2.25

0.15x = 2.25

x = 15

Therefore, the total distance between his house and work is 15 mi.
