Question

White light is incident normally on a glass plate of thickness 0.50×106 and index of refraction 1.50. Which wavelength in the visible region (400 nm-700 nm) are strongly reflected by the plate?

Solution

For strong reflection, there should be constructive interference.

Path difference=Δx=2μt=nλ

λ=2μtn=2×5×107×1.5n

λ=1500nmn

Hence, λ=500 for n=3
