White phosphorous reacts with Sodium Hydroxide solution and disproportionates into Sodium _ and _ gas.

The reaction is as follows:

$P_{4} + 3 N a O H + 3 H_{2} O \to 3 N a (H_{2} P O_{2})_{2} + 2 P H_{3}$

$P H_{3}$ as you might recall is a toxic gas that has a rotten fish like smell. The other compound is Sodium hypophosphite.
