Who among the following is related with the "Theory of spontaneous generation" and experiments with "swan necked flasks"?
Louis Pasteur experimented to check the authenticity of the theory of spontaneous generation. He took two identical “S” shaped flasks – which resembled the swan’s neck, hence this experiment is also known as the “Swan neck flask experiment”. The long swan neck is designed in such a way that it doesn’t let any contamination or dust from the environment enter the solution in the flask. These flasks were also pre-sterilized to avoid any unknown contamination. He filled both flasks with nutrient solutions and added yeast. He then boiled the solutions to kill the yeast in the flasks.
He broke the neck of one flask to let the nutrient solution interact with the air and environment. The other flask was left untouched. He observed that the nutrient solution in the open flask became cloudy in appearance while in the other flask it was clear. He examined both the solutions for microbial growth. The untouched flask had no changes in the solution. There was no indication of life forms in it. The open flask had different microscopic forms of life.
Microorganisms along with dust got entrapped in the curved bent of the flask. When the neck was cut, air could enter the main chamber of the flask which encouraged growth of microorganisms. Pasteur finally disproved abiogenesis and proved biogenesis.
