Vaikunta Swamikal, born at Shastamkoyil in Kanyakumari. He fought against caste discrimination by digging wells which were free for use by everyone irrespective of caste. He also introduced the practice of Samapanthibhojanam where people dined together. He opposed the prohibition of temple entry and prohibition of so called lower caste women wearing upper cloth.
