On April 3, 1926 Lord Irwin was appointed the 30th Viceroy and Governor-General of India. In 1930, Gandhi wrote to the Viceroy presenting eleven specific demands regarding the abolition of the Salt Laws. The Viceroy, Lord Irwin, however, rejected the letter.
