The pressure groups are groups that provides its influence and will over those who actually have the power to make decisions. Pressure groups does not acquire the power or political office for themselves, but try to influence the decisions made by those actually holds political power.

Some Pressure groups in India are as follows:

Five Pressure groups are as follows:

a. Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh: It is a labour union which works for the interest of labourers.

b. Bhartiya Kisan Union: Promotes the interest of farmers and is an active organisation.

c. All India Women's Conference is the most active group promoting the interest of women, has raised many issues related dowry, rape, violence against women , has organised strikes, processions etc.

d. Federation of Indian chambers of commerce and industries ( FICCI): It is the centralized organisation to which all chambers of commerce working India are affiliated with. FICCI promotes the interest of big business houses like Tata, Birla, Hindustan lever etc.

e. Telengana Praja Samiti has engaged in struggle for a separate state of Telengana and promoting the economic interests of its people and region.


Pressure groups exist to serve as a link between the government and the people.They keep the government informed about the needs and interests of the people. Their activities influence public policies and make government more responsive and answerable.
