Our constitution under Article 74(1) has provisions for the council of ministers to advise and assist the president. Three types of ministers can be appointed in the council of ministers.
Cabinet Ministers- are the most important ministers and head important departments like defence, home ministry, education and more.
State Ministers- are of lower rank as compared to cabinet ministers. They may or may not be in charge of an independent department.
Deputy Ministers- They assist cabinet ministers. They are not given charge of independent departments.
