A large group of people suffer from food and nutrition insecurity in India. The most affected groups are as follows :
- People belonging to the backward sections of the society like SCs, STs and OBCs etc.
- People employed in ill-paid occupations.
- Landless labourers, traditional artisans, self employed workers etc.
- People belonging to the economically backward states with high poverty, remote and distant areas, regions prone to natural disaster.
- People migrated to other regions in search of work.
- A large population of pregnant and nursing mothers and children under the age of 5 years.
Thus, these are groups of people more prone to food insecurity.
