The correct option is A James Brindley
The first English canal, the Worsley Canal (1761), was built by James Brindley (1716-72). It was built to carry coal from the coal deposits at Worsley (near Manchester) to the city. After the canal was completed, the price of coal fell by half. Subsequently, thousands of kilometres of canals were built by 1830 and were used to transport commodities cheaply.
