Bacteria:

  1. Bacterial cell is a primitive prokaryotic cell that does not contain membrane bound nucleus.
  2. It lacks the cell organelles like mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum etc.
  3. Its cell wall is made up of mostly peptidoglycan and have flagella for locomotion.

Discovered by: Antonie van Leeuwenhoek discovered bacteria in 1676. He referred to them as dierkens, i.e. small animals or animalcules in English.
