Solution

RNA interference (RNAi)

  1. This method includes silencing of a specific mRNA due to a complementary dsRNA molecule that binds to and prevents translation of the mRNA (silencing).
  2. The complementary RNA obtained, could be from an infection by viruses having RNA genomes or mobile genetic elements (transposons) that replicate via. an RNA intermediate.

Andrew Fire and Craig Mello discovered RNA interference.

  1. A novel strategy was adopted to prevent Meloidegyne incognitia infestation through RNA interference (RNAi).
  2. RNAi takes place in all eukaryotic organisms as a method of cellular defense.
