  1. Robert Brown discovered the nucleus in 1831 in epidermal cells of orchids.
  2. The term nucleus is derived from the Greek word Karyon kernel or nut.
  3. The nucleus plays a vital role in the fertilization and development of the embryo.
  4. It controls cell activities, usually in a spherical structure.
