Binomial system of nomenclature:

  1. Carolus Linnaeus introduced the binomial system of nomenclature in 1751.
  2. He published his work in ‘Species Plantarum’ in 1753.
  3. Binominal Nomenclature is the system of classifying and naming a species giving it a unique scientific name to avoid confusion.
  4. Binominal nomenclature consists of two names in which the first one indicates the genus name while the latter contains species names.
  5. The genus name's first letter should always be in capital and species with no capital letter.
  6. The binominal nomenclature should be in italics.
  7. For example, Panthera tigris is a binominal nomenclature for tiger in this Panthera indicates Genus and tigris is a species.
