Who is a Block Development officer? What is her/his importance?

Ans. Block Development Officer is an important position in the Panchayati Raj system. He is the incharge of the Block Samiti with the following functions:

• He is the nodal officer who implements all the plans related to the development of the block.
• He coordinates in the working of the samiti and effectively implements the plan formulated by the Samiti members.
• He owes his responsibility to the block at large.
• He works along with the official head of Block Samiti, i.e. the Block Pramukh and aims at the overall development of his area with innovative plans and policies.
