Notary public is an officer appointed by the Central Government or State Government to excercise the power and funcions relating to noting and protesting of negotiable instrument for dishounor.

The following facts are generally noted by the notary:

(i) Date, fact and reasons of dishonour.

(ii) If the bill is not expressly dishonoured ,the reasons why he treats it as dishonoured.

(iii)The amount of noting charges.
