Who is a revenue officer? What does he/she do?

The revenue officer works under the head of the district, i.e. the District Collector. He or she is also known as the Tehsildar.
They have to hear land disputes, supervise the work of the Patwaris and ensure that records are properly kept and land revenue is collected.
They make sure that the farmers can easily obtain a copy of their record and make it possible for students to obtain their caste certificates etc. Land disputes are heard at the Tehsildar's office.
