Who is considered as the father of Indian Green Revolution?
M.S. Swaminathan is considered as the father of the green revolution. In the year 1965, the government of India launched the Green Revolution with the help of M.S. Swaminathan who was a geneticist. He developed new ideas and creativity in agricultural products. His idea of development of agriculture furnished a lot. Hence he is regarded as the father of the green revolution.
Green revolution
The Green Revolution involved the production of high yielding varieties (often abbreviated as HYV) of seeds, resulting in an increase in agricultural production to combat food shortage and increase the revenue of the agricultural sector. The campaign of the green revolution was a huge success and changed the country’s status from a food-deficient economy to one of the world’s leading agricultural productivity nations. It started efficiently in 1967 and lasted till 1978.

The Green Revolution is often considered as the process of increasing agricultural production by incorporating modern tools and techniques. Green Revolution is associated with agricultural production and activities. It is the duration when agriculture of the country was converted into an industrial system due to the adoption and usage of modern methods and techniques like the use of high yielding variety seeds, tractors, irrigation facilities, pesticides, and fertilisers. Until the year 1967, the government majorly concentrated on expanding the farming areas by traditional methods. But the rapidly increasing population than the food production announced for a drastic and immediate action to increase yield which came in the form of Green Revolution.
