Who is powerful- president or the prime minister? Give reasons.

The prime minister is more powerful in India than the president. This is because the president is only the ceremonial head of the executive. Real executive authority are lies with the prime minister. Although all decisions by the central government are taken in the name of the president, it is the prime minister and his council of ministers who take actual decisions. The president is bound by the decisions taken by the prime minister.
