Solution: The Governor is the Nominal head of the executive which means that all the decisions in a state are taken by the Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers but in the name of the Governor.

Functions of the Governor-
  1. Invites the majority party in the state legislative assembly to form the Government.
  2. Administers the oath of loyalty to the Constitution and secrecy.
  3. Makes appointments to the key posts like the State Advocate General and Judges of Courts working under the High Court upon the advice of the Chief Minister.
  4. Summons and delays the sessions of the state legislature.
  5. Governor’s assent is necessary for a bill passed by the legislature to become a law.
  6. The Governor can also recommend the imposition of President’s rule in a state if he/she feels that the state is not working according to the Constitution of India.
