Binominal nomenclature:

  1. Carolus Linnaeus proposed the Binominal nomenclature system in 1753.
  2. Binominal was introduced in ‘Species Plantarum’ written by Linnaeus.
  3. Binominal nomenclature or binary nomenclature is a system of naming species used for identifying species.
  4. Binominal nomenclature contains two words in which the first one contains genus name or generic name and the latter contains species name or specific epithet both are in Latin.
  5. As different names are adopted for a single species so to avoid confusion binominal nomenclature was introduced.
  6. For example- Mangifera indica.
