Christopher Columbus was the first to reach the Caribbean Islands ( West Indies) from Spain in 1492 CE, When he sailed Westward in search of India.
He mistook Caribbean Islands for India and called ‘Indies’ and the inhabitants, ‘Red Indies’.
Later, he realised
That he had discovered Amerca! Americas( North America and South America together)came to be known as the ‘New world’ because they were discovered later than the other known continents.
