Dear Student,
Ashoka was the son of Mauryan Emperor Bindusara who succeeded his father and ruled almost all of the Indian sub-continent from 268 BC to 232 BC. Ashoka was born in the year 304 BC and died in the year 232 BC. The Mauryan Empire during Ashoka's reign was spread from the modern day Afghanistan in the west to Bangladesh in the east and Kashmir in the north up to south India, except parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The capital of the Mauryan Empire was Pataliputra which also had provincial capitals at Taxila and Ujjain.
