Baji Prabhu Deshpande was charged with the responsibility of stopping Siddhi's army at the foot of Vishalgad. He fought with valour and kept the Siddi army in check at the Ghod Pass near Gajapur. This was known as the battle of Pavan Khind. He died in battle but was successful in keeping the Siddi army at bay long enough for Shivaji to reach Vishalgad.
