Sir Charles Wood was the President of the Board of Control of Education during the rule of the East India Company in the nineteenth century. Two objectives of 'Wood's Despatch' were to impart Western knowledge to Indian people and to develop their intellect and moral character. It was aimed at spreading western ideas, concepts, culture and knowledge among the natives of India.
