Dietrich Brandis:
Dietrich Brandis is also known as the father of Indian forest or better known as the father of tropical forestry
He was a German Botanist who worked with the British Imperial Forestry Service in Colonial Indian
He joined the British Services in 1856 and, after seven years, became the first Inspector General of Forest
He set up the Indian Forest Service in 1864 and formulated the Indian Forest Act in 1865
His journey as Inspector General of Forest marked the dawn of scientific forestry.
The Imperial Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, was set up in 1906, where scientific forestry or commercial forestry was taught by him.
