Theory of transmutation of species:

  1. According to Lamarck, all living organisms did not share a common ancestor.
  2. Rather, he believed in the creation of simple life forms by spontaneous generation.
  3. He believed in a life force which he described as a nervous fluid to be the reason the organisms move towards complexity over time.
  4. The same nervous fluid changes the organ of the species according to its use or disuse.
