In the first half of 19 th century Due to rapid growth of trade in cotton and opium ,large communities of traders ,bankers,artisans and shopkeepers came to settle in Bombay.
  • In 1854 textile mill was established in Bombay and by 1921 there were 85 cotton mills so large number of workers migrated to Bombay for working in textile and cotton industries.
  • Large number of people migrated from Ratnagiri to work in mills.
  • Due to famine in the dry region of Kutch large number of people migrated to Bombay in 1888-1889.
