1-Speed of light $(c = 3 \times 10^{8} m / s)$ is more than the speed of sound $(c = 330 m / s)$ which means light travels faster than sound.
2- Hence light takes less time to travel the same distance as compared to sound.
Thus, a flash of lightning is seen before the thunder is heard even when both the events occur simultaneously during the thunderstorm.
