Why a glass pane of a window is shattered when a flying pebble hits it?

  1. When a pebble is moving with some velocity and hit a glass pane that is at rest.
  2. When it hits the glass pane the velocity of the pebble decreases suddenly and the momentum becomes large.
  3. As a result the force by the pebble also becomes large and breaks the glass pane.
